Nanoleaf Launches a New Range of Matter Smart Lights

Nanoleaf has announced a new lineup of Matter compatible smart lights. These will be the first smart lights to officially be compatible with Matter.

While the bulbs announced by Nanoleaf identical to the Essentials bulbs launched last year, these bulbs will now feature the all important Matter Logo.

These bulbs work over the Thread network. You will need a Thread border router such as an HomePod mini or Apple TV. These border routers are similar to a hub and will allow you to control the bulbs remotely. They also will now work as a Matter controller.

When will Nanoleaf Launch the Matter Bulbs in Australia?

The bulbs are launching in the U.S in late April. Nanoleaf hasn’t announced if they are making the Australian versions of their bulbs Matter compatible. We’ll probably need to wait until later this year before Nanoleaf launches Matter bulbs in Australia.

Why Does Matter Matter?

Matter is all about compatibility. Matter is a game-changer for smart homes because it makes it way easier for all your smart home devices to work together. Currently if you use Apple Home you need to look out for the “HomeKit” logo. And if you use Google Home you need to look out for Google Home Support. But with Matter, devices will work across platforms. Matter has the support of all the big tech companies. Going forward you don’t need to worry about whether a device will work on your platform or not, you just need to look out for the Matter logo.
