The second generation of the Apple HomePod is now available in Australia. Although it looks similar to its predecessor it does have a number of new features.
Unlike the previous generation HomePod the new version can act as a Thread Border Router and it will support Matter. This means it can serve as the smart home hub of your house.
The other smart home addition to this new generation are the Temperature and Humidity sensors. The HomePod mini has had these sensors since launch, but they were only recently turned on with the release of ios16.3. You’ll can see the temperature data from within the Home app or ask Siri “What is the temperature inside”
With a future iOS update the HomePod will also listen for carbon dioxide and smoke alarms. If it detects an alarm it will send you a notification.
The HomePod’s main focus is definitely music. It features a 5 tweeter array and a 4-inch high excision woofer. It features the same type of room sensing as the previous model. The HomePod will adjust its sound based on the room it’s in. Just like the previous version, the current HomePod is receiving positive reviews for its sound.
HomePod Pricing in Australia
