I love my Roborock robot vacuum. I think it’s currently the best robot vacuum that you can currently buy in Australia. Roborock has recently launched the Roborock s7 MaxV. It’s a pretty expensive vacuum, but it does have some impressive features. Is it worth getting?

Why it’s Worth Upgrading to the S7 MaxV
I currently have a Roborock S6 Pure. It’s an excellent robot vacuum and one of the best available. The only thing I could think about improving on it, is its ability to detect small objects like power cords and pet toys. The Roborock S7 MaxV can do just that. Plus it has powerful mopping and can be fully automated thanks to a new Ultra docking station. The Roborock S7 MaxV is pretty much the ultimate robot vacuum and the best robot vacuum that you can buy in Australia (and the rest of the world).
S7 MaxV AI Object Recognition
The S7 MaxV comes with AI object recognition. The S7 MaxV comes with a built in camera which is unique to the MaxV. This camera can detect things like charging cables, clothes, toys etc. The type of things that a robot vacuum will usually struggle to deal with.
I think this is a worthy reason to upgrade. The Roborock object avoidance works extremely well. You don’t need to go around the house making sure the floors are clear of obstacles. You can just run the Roborock on a schedule.
S7 MaxV Mopping
The Roborock has a built in mop and the S7 MaxV is one of the few robot vacuum cleaners that can vacuum and mop at the same time. The Robot will detect when it’s on carpet and automatically raise up the mop pad to vacuum the carpet floors.
Based on testing the Roborock has some of the best mopping performance. It vibrates over 3000 times per minutes to scrub any dried on mess.
S7 MaxV vs S7 MaxV Ultra
The Ultra version of the Roborock S7 MaxV comes with a docking station that can fully empty and clean your Roborock. This is the only difference between the two models. And it is possible to buy the docking station separately. The Ultra docking station will empty the vacuum bin, change the water in the mop and clean the mop head. This means the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra can pretty much be left alone to clean your entire house, you just need to empty the water and empty the bin in the docking station every now and then.

The regular S7 doesn’t come with a camera so it won’t have the same object detection. If your floors are usually free from small objects this shouldn’t be a big issue for you.
Is it Worth Paying for an Expensive Robot Vacuum
The Roborock is one of the most expensive Robot Vacuums in Australia. If you just need to vacuum, the cheaper Roborock models will do an excellent job. They all have excellent navigation capabilities and usually come out on top in terms of cleaning performance. If you want to run the Roborock on a schedule I would get the S7 MaxV or the S6 MaxV. These both have a camera and will avoid things like cords that you might forget to pick up.
Whatever you do, don’t buy a super cheap robot vacuum. The really cheap Robot Vacuums (~$100 in price) will just leave you frustrated. They usually rely on bump and move to get around your house. The Roborock’s have a built in LiDAR Scanner. They can see the furniture and walls, where as the cheap robots just bump around randomly. They will get stuck and they have very poor cleaning performance. It’s worth spending a bit more to get a robot vacuum that will properly clean your house.
My Roborock S6 pure, cleans as well as my Dyson and has yet to get stuck in my apartment. It’s something I use most days. Where as a cheap robot vacuum will be consigned to the closet after the novelty has worn off.
