The kettle is one of the most used appliances in my kitchen. Like most Australians, I do enjoy a good afternoon cuppa. Did you know that you can now get a smart wifi kettle?! These wifi kettles come with a variety of features that let you turn them on remotely (like from bed) or set the exact temperature via an app or using Google Home or Alexa.
Smart vs Wifi Kettles
There are a number of “smart” kettles that are available in Australia. These are different to Wifi kettles. A Smart Kettle usually just lets you set a specific temperature. For example the popular Stag EKG kettle, lets you set a temperature between 57-100 degrees. Why? Well for Coffee and Tea enthusiasts, brewing at a precise temperature is important to them.
A wifi kettle is connected to your network and allows you to turn it on remotely via an app or voice control. Unfortunately in Australia we have a limited range of smart kettles with wifi.
The Best Smart Kettles Available in Australia
There aren’t a huge range of smart wifi kettles available in Australia. Here are the best options you can currently buy:
Kogan SmarterHome Smart Wifi Kettle
Note – As of November 2022, it looks like the Kogan SmarterHome Kettle is no longer available. I’ll update this page if it ever becomes available again. The next best option is the Weekett Wifi Kettle used with an adapter.
Kogan sells a range of smart home products under the “Smarterhome” brand. The Kogan SmarterHome Wifi Kettle can be controlled using a phone and has Google Assistant and Alexa support. This Smart Kettle with WiFi lets you control using an App and boil remotely. This is the best Smart Kettle with Wifi you can buy in Australia.
Here are the main features of the Kogan smart wifi kettle:
- Boil Remotely – Turn the kettle on from bed or from the couch using the Smarterhome App.
- Keep Warm – You can set the kettle to stay warm. Great if you’re making drinks over a longer period.
- Boil Notifications – Get notified when the kettle has finished boiling.
- Google Assistant Kettle – Works with Google Assistant. Ask Google to Boil the Kettle
- Alexa Support – Works with Alexa. Ask Alexa to boil the kettle! Unfortunately no HomeKit support.
- Variable Temperature – Set the temperature to suit what your brewing.

Weekett Wifi Kettle
The Weekett Wifi kettle is one of the best Wifi kettles. The only downside is that it’s currently only shipped with a UK style plug. So you will need an adapter to use it in Australia. It does run off 240 volts. I prefer the Weekett app and functions to the Kogan kettle, but it’s a bit annoying that it doesn’t have an AU plug.
Breville Smart Kettle – Best Without Wifi
If you’re looking for a variable temperature controlled kettle and don’t really care about connectivity features, than your best bet is to go with the Breville Smart Kettle.
This Kettle will let you set various temperatures from 80-100 degrees and it has a keep warm function as well. While the Breville Smart Kettle doesn’t come with any connectivity features, I don’t think you’ll really miss them – The novelty of turning on a kettle with a phone is only going to last for so long.
As this Kettle is a Breville, you know it’s going to last a long time (mine has been going for 5+ years without any issues). One of my concerns with the Kogan and Kmart kettle is the build quality and I wouldn’t expect them to last very long.

Kmart Smart Kettle with Wifi
Kmart launched a Smart Kettle that also includes WiFi support. It’s features include:
- Boil Remotely – The kettle can be controlled through your mobile phone.
- Google Assistant and Alexa Support – Ask your voice assistant to boil the kettle
- Variable Temperature – Set the temperature to suit your brewing.
Unfortunately it doesn’t look like Kmart is still selling the Smart Kettle. I will update this page if Kmart every brings it back in stock.
Do you need a Smart Wifi Kettle?
I won’t be adding a wifi kettle to my smart home setup anytime soon. While being able to turn on the kettle from the couch could come in handy, I can’t see it being worth the cost. Neither the Smarthome kettle or the Kmart kettle are particularly expensive. And I also can’t imagine that either of these products are particularly well made. I would rather spend money getting a variable temperature kettle like the Stag or Breville Smart Kettle. If you do want some connected features, go for the Kogan SmarterHome Kettle.
