I looked at the top smart pet cameras available in Australia. A pet camera will send you notifications when it detects your pet and you can see, hear and talk back to your pet.
If you’re looking to get a smart camera to track your dog or cat during the day (or night) these are the best options currently on the market.
The Bests Smart Pet Cameras
TP-Link Tapo
The TP-Link Tapo is a cheap smart camera that can rotate 360°. This means you’ll be able to spin it around to follow your pet no matter where they are in the room. I recommend getting the slightly more expensive 3mp version. It’s only a few dollars more but has much better video quality.
The TP-Link Tapo has basic motion detection. It’s not as feature rich or clever as some of the other options, but it’s good for basic motion detection. The Tapo can also see in the dark thanks to infrared sensors.
Eufy Pan and Tilt
A great alternative to the TP-Link Tapo is the Eufy Pan and Tilt. It’s a bit more expensive but has some great added features.
The Eufy Pan and Tilt can detect pets (and humans). You’ll get a notification as soon as it detects either (this can be customised and you can setup motion zones). The Eufy Pan and Tilt can also automatically track your pet as it moves around the room. The quality of the camera like all Eufy Cameras is very good. The camera does support sound notifications and you can choose to get notified if it detects barking.
The Eufy Pan and Tilt has two way audio so you’ll be able to see, hear and talk back to your pet.
The Eufy cameras work with Homekit Secure Video however there are some features that aren’t supported by Homekit. It is possible to use both Homekit + the Eufy app to make sure you have all the supported features.
Petcube Play 2
The Petcube Play 2 is a smart pet camera which is best suited to cat owners. It has a built in laser that you can use to amuse your cat.
The Petcube can send you a notification when barking or meowing is detected. Unfortunately though to access these features you do need to pay for a subscription to their Petcube Care plan. You can get sound detection without needing a subscription with the Eufy Pan and Tilt Camera.
The Best Pet Cameras with Treat Dispensers
If you’re looking for a smart pet camera with a treat dispenser, these are the best options available in Australia.
Furbo Dog Camera
The Furbo dog camera is both a 360° camera with a built in treat dispenser. It has smart barking alerts, which will send you a notification when barking is detected. You can choose to get an additional subscription to unlock more smart notifications like people and smoke alarm.
Of course the stand out feature is being able to dispense treats. This is a great added feature for pets with separation anxiety.
Skymee Robot Camera with Treat Dispenser
With the Skymee Robot Camera you can follow your pets around and dispense treats.
The camera quality isn’t anywhere near as good as something like the Eufy camera, but it does a pretty good job. The Skymee also doesn’t have any motion detection features. It’s great if you want to interact with your pet during the day, but not so good for passive tracking.
Kmart Pet Camera (Mirabella Genio)
Kmart sells this Mirabella Genio automatic pet feeder with camera. I’m not a huge fan of the Mirabella Genio range as all of the products are quite cheap and poorly made. I also get a lot of troubleshoot requests from people having issues with connections. I would buy this as a smart feeder first and a pet camera second. It only has a 720p camera and doesn’t have the same smart features that many of the other smart pet cameras have.
Which Smart Pet Camera Should I buy?
The TP-Link Tapo is a great budget pick if you don’t want to spend over $100 on a pet camera. My top pick (if you don’t need a treat dispenser) is the Eufy Pan and Tilt. It’s a little more expensive than the Tapo but it can automatically track motion and I found the motion alerts to be more accurate.
If you want a pet camera with dispenser my top pick is the Furbo. Eufy also sells a pet camera with dispenser but it’s much more expensive (except when it’s on sale).
